PPID didn't seem to exist in the old days. A horse of 15+ would just get old age ailments that got worse as he got older. Sometimes a senior would be lucky and the vet would think of what we then called Cushing's disease.

Fortunately, this has changed in the last 20 years. New scientific insights have become accessible to more people. We now know that many of these 'ailments' are characteristics of PPID; the current name for this nasty condition. PPID horses remain much less under the radar, because we ourselves sound the alarm sooner if we think our horse has PPID.
