With this mounting set you can easily mount a slowfeeder rack in a plastic pallet box or wooden apple crate. The different parts have been carefully selected for this application.
This set provides each corner of the slowfeeder tray with a cord along which the slowfeeder rack is guided through the tray from top to bottom. As the tray becomes emptier, the slowfeeder rack follows the cords and sinks to the bottom. This attachment ensures that the slowfeeder rack remains neatly in place and prevents unsafe situations.
To fill the bin, unhook both snap hooks on a jug and place the slowfeeder rack upright. After filling, put the rack back and reattach the rack by pulling the snap hook through the mesh and clicking it shut.
The thread of the screw eyes has a length of 4 cm so that, when mounted in an average pallet box, it protrudes minimally and reduces the risk of injury.
Why cord and not chains?
Cord is a soft and strong material. It is easy to cut to size based on the height of your arena, so it is easy to work with. It does not absorb moisture and is UV resistant. In addition, a cord does not rattle and does not make any extra noise besides the sound made by the frame or the snap hooks. A chain is often rougher if horses accidentally take it in their mouths. The cord lasts a long time, but when the cord eventually wears out, it is economical to replace.
The set contains:
- 4 galvanized carabiners
- Strong 4mm cord to lower the rack (±6.5m) colour: beige
- 8 M8 galvanized screw eyes - thread length 4cm
- 8 M8 lock nuts galvanized (prevents loosening)
- 4 regular M8 nuts, galvanized (to reduce bolt protrusion, if necessary).
- 8 M8 lock washers galvanized
- DIY step-by-step guide
If beige cord is not available, we can add black cord.
Tips
- This set is certainly suitable for mounting in a standard plastic pallet box (external dimensions of +/- 100X120cm)
- For mounting in a wooden apple crate or any other type of crate or wooden box it is important that you measure in advance whether the thread of the screw eyes (4cm) is long enough to go through the wood / crate. The side walls of the box must be thinner than 3.5cm.
- 4mm cord has a breaking strength of 270kg. If you like you can always place a zip-tie between the cords and the bottom eye for extra security.
- The set is less suitable for an IBC barrel. These walls are very thin and can distribute forces with difficulty. You run a greater risk of the wall tearing or being damaged.
