Is the EasyGrazer gentle on the teeth?
The EasyGrazer has a high acceptance when it comes to tooth friendliness. However, the quality of the teeth can differ per horse. The grazing behavior also differs from horse to horse. Therefore, keep checking your horse's teeth regularly and have the dentist come at least once a year for a thorough inspection. This is especially important with 24/7 grazing with a grazing muzzle or with older horses.
My horse has very sensitive skin, will the EasyGrazer cause chafing?
The EasyGrazer is designed to cause minimal discomfort to the horse. The material is smooth and the mask has fine hardware to minimize chafing. Most horses tolerate the EasyGrazer well after a period of getting used to it, during which the wearing time is gradually increased. Ensure the correct size and sufficient space around the mouth to minimize the chance of chafing in the basket.
Nevertheless, it may be that your horse is so sensitive that extra measures are necessary. After all, the grazing muzzle and the halter are constantly in motion during the grazing period. To provide your horse with extra protection, we have developed sets with furs that you can easily apply to your EasyGrazer. Build up wearing it gradually and keep a close eye on your horse's skin, especially if your horse wears the grazing muzzle 24/7.
How long does the EasyGrazer last?
With grazing muzzles and also the EasyGrazer, the best balance between durability, comfort and safety is always considered. In addition, a grazing muzzle is a 'consumable product' due to the nature of the application and the intensive load. In general, you can assume that a grazing muzzle will last for about a pasture season. However, depending on the circumstances or the behaviour of your horse, this can be shorter or much longer.
Experience shows that the EasyGrazer lasts the longest during grazing in a stable herd, where the horse accepts the grazing muzzle well. In the pasture it is important that the chance of getting stuck is very low. An openly designed grazing muzzle, such as the Easygrazer, gets caught more easily behind protruding objects when curious than a more densely designed grazing muzzle. Therefore check the free living environment of your horse thoroughly.
In general, take into account an average usage period of one to two pasture seasons, with outliers of up to three seasons. In this, the wearing period, intensity of use and any unpredictable incidents naturally have an influence.
Does the Easygrazer have a brake-away function?
Yes, biothane is very strong in itself (breaking strength of 280kg) and that is why it is necessary that the grazing muzzle can give way and come loose in panic situations. Otherwise the consequences can be dramatic. EasyGrazer has therefore chosen to stitch the mutual connections and to attach a rivet here and there as an extra weak point. The buckles in the headpiece also form a brake-away. Your horse can therefore safely go to the pasture unattended with the Easygrazer. If a minor incident occurs, you can use the supplied rivets to repair the grazing muzzle. Spare headpieces are available separately. In addition, Biothane can generally be repaired by a shoemaker or saddler or a part can be replaced with a new piece of biothane.
Is it okay to wear a grazing muzzle 24/7?
A grazing muzzle is often used 24/7 when another form of housing is not possible and the health risks are too great to do nothing. Of course, it is not preferred. However, it is necessary to opt for a mild restriction. In addition, it is necessary to check your horse extra and keep a close eye on the feeding and supplement if necessary. Wearing a grazing muzzle 24/7 sometimes seems like a simple solution, but it really requires extra alertness and care. What should you pay extra attention to:
- The nutritional intake, supplement feed one or more times a day if necessary, without a grazing muzzle.
- The skin, chafing spots develop more quickly if the skin is not given rest.
- The teeth are also under continuous load, even with a soft rubber base.
Is the EasyGrazer suitable for my horse with EMS?
If your horse is seriously overweight, insulin resistant or recovering from laminitis, it is better to choose a less mild restriction. A stricter restriction protects your horse more against high sugar levels than a milder restriction. In addition, the EasyGrazer may have too little effect on weight loss for seriously overweight horses.
I have a young and playful horse. Is the EasyGrazer also suitable?
Many young horses want to discover the world. More and more stables are developing group housing or natural habitats with various elements where there is more to experience. In addition, young geldings or stallions like to play bite games and pull on each other's halters. These situations can ensure that the lifespan of the EasyGrazer is significantly reduced. In such a case, we recommend choosing two more economical grazing muzzles so that you always have a spare if the other one needs to be repaired.
My horse works off all grazing muzzles and is not careful with himself, can the EasyGrazer work for him?
Here too, we recommend choosing an economic grazing muzzle. And also look for where you can alleviate the restriction for your horse. Is that with more hay for the pasture or a portion of hay in between. Practicing together can also help to master grazing.
Is there a warranty on the EasyGrazer?
No, unfortunately there is no guarantee on the grazing muzzle. This is because the circumstances and the behaviour of the horse are decisive for the occurrence of any damage. Because we have no influence on these factors, we are also not responsible for this.
The product has been developed with great care with a specific philosophy in mind with animal welfare in mind. The properties of the material have been tailored to safety and the average use that works well for the majority of horses, within the expected period of use.
An accident can sometimes happen in a small corner and is of course very annoying. Unfortunately, a horse does not take into account this expected and desired duration of use or cost price. That is a risk with every grazing muzzle and a part of the applied measure to limit the intake of your horse.
