The GreenGuard grazing muzzle is a sturdy and airy grazing muzzle made of strong plastic. This allows your horse or pony to go to the pasture with the herd without overeating. You attach the grazing muzzle to a suitable (safety!) halter with the supplied straps.

It is possible to vary the intake reduction for size Cob and Horse by means of separately available insert plates throughout the season. In this way, you can use a diet insert plate in the spring and at other risky moments to give your horse extra protection and during the summer, when your horse's weight is well under control, use a milder insert plate so that it can eat a little more. Good for your horse and a good feeling for you. A separate leather insert plate is available for size pony.

The reduction of this grazing muzzle is relatively mild due to the many slots and is, without insert plate, estimated on average around 55% (variables of 30% -70%). These percentages do however depend on the horse's agility, the length of the grass and the possibly chosen insert plate. A diet plate will increase the reduction to around 75% (estimated percentage).

Additional tips

Build up wearing slowly . As with any grazing muzzle, your horse will need to get used to the grazing muzzle slowly. Guide your horse well during the first few moments. By building up wearing slowly, the skin can recover between wearing, which reduces the chance of chafing.
Protect the skin from chafing: If the grazing muzzle fits well, the chance of chafing is less. Sometimes a spot can still occur due to the grazing muzzle rubbing along. We have a unique and complete range of accessories to help prevent chafing. From furs to stickers to neoprene protectors. The stickers in particular are very pleasant to protect the chin.
Protect the teeth: We recommend using the grazing muzzle only in combination with a rubber or leather insert plate to protect the teeth. Nevertheless, continue to check the teeth regularly and have the dentist come for an annual check-up. In addition to an insert plate, the adjustment also has a major influence on the teeth. Therefore, watch the adjustment instructions carefully. You can find more information about correct adjustment in the video.

Can I also use the GreenGuard grazing muzzle without an insert plate?

Because the original bottom is made of hard plastic, we do not recommend using a Greenguard grazing muzzle without an insert plate. Without extra protection, this can lead to faster tine wear. Even with an insert plate, you will have to keep checking the tines regularly.

How do I properly adjust the Greenguard grazing muzzle?

The GreenGuard grazing muzzle is attached to the straps and a well-fitting safety halter.
Make sure that the lips do not touch the grazing muzzle but that there is a few mm between the lips and the ground. Leave the strap on the nose a little longer than the other straps. This will make the grazing muzzle hang more parallel to the teeth and the ground when the horse starts grazing. This ensures that the teeth are less bothered by the grazing muzzle. Can my horse eat along the grazing muzzle for a long time?

Breaking out and eating along the GreenGuard is very rare. First of all, make sure that the adjustment of the mask is not too loose. If you have a real Houdini, you can use a special set to provide the opening next to the nostrils with an extra strap.

Can my horse eat hay with the GreenGuard grazing muzzle?

No, unfortunately it is very difficult to eat hay through the slots. Horses then run the risk of getting too little nutrition.

How long can the GreenGuard grazing muzzle be worn per day?

We recommend using the GreenGuard grazing muzzle for a maximum of 8-10 hours per day. Combine grazing with a paddock or stable period in addition to these hours. We do not recommend using the grazing muzzle 24/7. Whether a grazing muzzle is suitable for 24/7 grazing depends on various properties. The degree of restriction is one of the most important factors. If a horse wears the grazing muzzle permanently, it must also be able to take in all the necessary nutrition. Even with limited intake, a horse still has a minimum
amount of food needed to stay healthy. In addition, we also look at the material and the possible impact on the horse's mouth during 24/7 grazing. Because the GreenGuard is made of relatively hard material and the rubber inserts are also quite sturdy. We find the grazing muzzle less suitable for 24/7 grazing despite the relatively mild restriction. Of course, there are horses that can do well. If you do want to use the grazing muzzle in this way, keep the
teeth and food carefully. Use only a normal insert plate and not a diet insert plate.

How long does the GreenGuard grazing muzzle last?

The GreenGuard grazing muzzle is a strong and durable grazing muzzle. In general, it tolerates some clumsy behavior fairly well. The wear rate depends on the grazing behavior of your horse. How long a horse can do with a GreenGuard therefore differs per horse. Where one horse can do three or more seasons with it, another horse may need to replace it after one season.

Is there a warranty on the GreenGuard grazing muzzle?

No, unfortunately there is no guarantee on the grazing muzzle. This is because the circumstances and the behaviour of the horse are decisive for the occurrence of any damage. Because we have no influence on these factors, we are also not responsible for this.
