The Best Friend® Standard grazing muzzle is a solid and sturdy grazing muzzle. With its small opening, this grazing muzzle belongs to the masks with a high restriction. The intake reduction is approximately between 75 and 80%. This makes the grazing muzzle very suitable for horses with serious overweight or related metabolic problems. The grazing muzzle is a great aid in helping your horse lose weight and can help prevent laminitis.

This grazing muzzle is used in combination with a separate grazing muzzle or safety halter. The grazing muzzle is therefore slightly lower than the Best Friend® Deluxe and has four loops that can be attached to the halter with Velcro. The closure is held in place with a metal loop and is therefore firmly attached. With a special fur around the noseband of the halter, you can limit chafing to a minimum.

If your horse has a tendency to rub a grazing muzzle over its nose, this grazing muzzle may be a good solution.

Thanks to the extensive choice of sizes, there is always a grazing muzzle that fits well.

The bottom is made of special odourless laminated rubber which is generally more wear-resistant than other grazing muzzles with a rubber bottom, this makes the Standard grazing muzzle from Best Friend unique and even more durable.

Why can the Best Friend Standard only be used 8-10 hours per day?

Due to the strict restriction, it is nice for your horse if he can eat hay after a maximum duration of 8-10 hours. A horse has a minimal need for fiber and with this strict grazing muzzle it can be too difficult to meet that need. Therefore, give your horse hay before the pasture. So that your horse does not go to the pasture with an empty stomach with a strict grazing muzzle. Only let your horse go to the pasture with a grazing muzzle if eating and drinking with this grazing muzzle works well.

Is my horse protected against laminitis with this grazing muzzle?

Laminitis is often caused by a complex metabolic problem. The most common cause is long-term unsuitable nutrition. Pasture in an unhealthy pasture is one of them. Treating horses with EMS or severe obesity requires a broader approach in addition to limiting pasture access. In some cases, a strict restriction of pasture access alone may not be sufficient. The grazing muzzle is an important part of a treatment plan but never a solution in itself. Can my horse eat with the grazing muzzle on its own or does it have to learn it?

Not every horse can handle a grazing muzzle by itself. Some horses are very down-to-earth about it and simply find out how it works by trying and quickly achieve success. Other horses can become anxious or frustrated and need more guidance and practice. Therefore, practice together. Sometimes it can take a few weeks before it really works. Do not give up too quickly after a few sessions. Only put your horse in the pasture with the grazing muzzle when you are sure that it can eat and drink.

Can my horse get chafing?

Chafing can occur if the grazing muzzle does not fit properly, if wearing is increased too quickly, so that the skin cannot get used to it, or if your horse has very sensitive skin. Rain and sand can also be an additional risk factor for chafing. To prevent your horse from getting chafing, first choose the right size grazing muzzle. And as a preventive measure, you can use an additional fur. A stable bald spot is not a problem. Calluses often form here and the horse solves the problem itself.

How long does the grazing muzzle last?

With grazing muzzles and also this grazing muzzle, the best balance between durability, comfort and safety and cost price is always considered. In addition, a grazing muzzle is a 'consumable product' due to the nature of the application and the intensive load. In general, you can rely on it
assume that a grazing muzzle will last for about one to two pasture seasons. But depending on the circumstances or the behavior of your horse, this can be shorter or much longer.

An accident can happen in a small corner. In the pasture it is important that the chance of getting caught is very low. Therefore check the free living environment of your horse thoroughly. The safety lock does not guarantee that the grazing muzzle will not be damaged in an incident.
